 Vocabulary:  Hog-Rings

Hog-Rings are like big staples, used to attach auto upholstery to the foam and frame.

The hog-ring has pointed ends to poke through the attachments.

Hog-Rings require special Hog-Ring Pliers...

 Vocabulary: Hog-Ring Pliers
   (shown here in Red)
              -
Hog-Ring Pliers have a groove molded in that holds the hog-ring.
They are used to INSTALL hog-rings, not to remove old hog-rings.

 Vocabulary: Side-Cutter Pliers
   (shown here in Blue)

Side-Cutter Pliers are used to REMOVE old hog-rings.
Grab - twist - or cut the old hog-rings.

Vocabulary:  Listing Strips

Listing strips are used under the upholstery to attach it to the seat foam,
this gives the  upholstery a "sucked-in" 3 dimensional look.

 To hog-ring Listing Strips:

Poke the hog-ring through the Listing Strips at the very bottom to capture
just the plastic or wire edge. This will eliminate a wavy seam.

See how the Listing Strip is fully extended.

This allows the upholstery to "Float" above the seat foam, this will minimize wrinkles.

Close the hog-ring ONLY until it forms a circle.

Do Not crush the hog-ring flat.

Vocabulary: Welt - an extruded plastic product often referred to as beading or piping.

When using Hog-Rings to attach welt edges of the upholstery to the frame “capture” the welt with the hog-ring and fasten.

Poke through the material just above the welt.

Do Not poke the welt.

Do Not damage the thread.
